ARTIST BIO Uchechi Gift Udochukwu was born in Port-harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria, some decades ago. She attended primary and secondary levels of school in Lagos, Nigeria. She had her preliminary Art Creativity from natural instincts, which she later brushed up by going through the tutelage of the Omidiran African Art School, Ile-ife, Osun State, Nigeria. This she did while getting her Bsc. and B.ed. Economics and Education in the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University, ile-ife, Osun State. As a striving artist, Gift has to her credit, participation in a couple of joint exhibitions, as well as some solos. Every year, she participates in the Lagos international tradesfair exhibition. She is also a bonafide member of the well respected society of Nigerian artists(S.N.A). Here, she actively participate in their yearly exhibitions. She is a prolific artist in diverse mixed media paintings just like her master. She has a schedule set for work on the week days and subsequent weekends at the studio. She works towards achieving culturally inclined artistic expressions that are basically African in themes and formations. She is currently based in ile-ife, Osun State, Nigeria. She is a self taught artist. ARTIST STATEMENT I am an Artist who is inspired by the beauty and the natural world. I am highly motivated by events around my immediate environment. This gives me the inspiration I use in putting together colours, forms, motifs, patterns, textures, and lines to make up my art pieces.
