Fluxus Artist Ben Vautier Dies at 88

French artist Ben Vautier, known for his playful and thought-provoking work that blurred the lines between art and everyday life, has passed away at the age of 88. Vautier, who often went by just "Ben," was found dead in his Nice home on Wednesday with a gunshot wound, according to local authorities. An investigation is currently underway.

Vautier was a key figure in the Fluxus movement, an international art movement of the 1960s and 70s that emphasized audience participation, performance art, and the blurring of artistic disciplines. His work often incorporated humor and everyday objects, with many pieces featuring short phrases or slogans scrawled across them. One of his most famous works is a simple white canvas with the inscription "Everything is Art."

Vautier's death has been met with an outpouring of tributes from the art world. Many have lauded his influence on contemporary art and his dedication to making art accessible to everyone. Museums and galleries around the world are planning retrospective exhibitions to celebrate his life and work.
